Read through the autobiography you created in Project
2 and create a table of contents for the autobiography. Make sure you include
all side headings in the table of contents by completing the following steps:
Open Proj2.
Save the document with Save As and name it Proj20.
Apply heading styles to the title, headings, and subheadings
by completing the following steps:
With the insertion point positioned at the beginning
of the document, press the Enter key once. (This adds room for the
bale of contents you will be inserting later.)
Select the entire document and then change the
line spacing to single.
Position the insertion point on any character
in the title heading, click the down-pointing triangle to the right
of the Style button on the Formatting toolbar, and then click Heading
1.
Position the insertion point anywhere in one of
your side headings, click the down-pointing triangle to the right
of the Style button on the Formatting toolbar, and then click Heading
2.
Continue applying Heading 2 style to all your
side headings.
Position the insertion point immediately left of the
title of your Autobiography and then insert a section break by completing
the following steps:
Click Insert and then Break.
At the Break dialog box, click Next page.
Click OK or press Enter.
With the insertion point positioned below the section
break, insert page numbering at the bottom center of the autobiography
pages in Arabic format (1, 2, 3, etc.). The first page of the autobiography
should be page number 1. Follow the steps below to insert page numbers
on each page:
Click Insert and then Page Numbers.
At the Page Numbers dialog box, click the down-pointing
triangle at the right side of the Alignment option, and then click
Center at the drop-down list.
Click the Format button (in the dialog box, not
on the Menu bar).
At the Page Number Format dialog box, click Start
at. (This inserts 1 in the Start at text box).
Click OK or press Enter to close the Page Number
Format dialog box.
Complete and insert a table of contents at the beginning
of the document by completing the following steps:
Position the insertion point at the beginning
of the document (on the new page).
Turn on bold, key TABLE OF CONTENTS centered,
and then turn off bold.
Press the Enter key once and then change the paragraph
alignment back to left.
Click Insert and then Index and Tables.
At the Index and Tables dialog box with the Table
of Contents tab selected, click the down-pointing triangle at the
right side of the Formats list box, and then click Formal at the drop-down
list.
Click OK or press Enter.
Position the insertion point on any character in the
tile TABLE OF CONTENTS, and then apply the Heading 1 style. (This will
change the font to 16-point Arial bold and also change the alignment to
left.)
Insert page numbering at the bottom center of the
Table of Contents page that is lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.)
and start at number i by completing the following steps:
Click Insert and then Page Numbers.
At the Page Numbers dialog box, click the format
button.
At the Page Number format dialog box, click the
down-pointing triangle at the right side of the Number format text
box, and then click i, ii, iii, ... at the drop-down list.
Clack Start at. (This inserts i in the Start at
text box.)
Click OK or press Enter to close the Page Number
Format dialog box.
At the Page Numbers dialog box, click OK or press
Enter.
Save the document again with the same name (Proj20).
